Where Do Commercial Epoxy Floors Work Best?

Commercial epoxy floorings are exponentially popular – especially in warehouses, hospitals and many more applications. But, why do these floors work so well in certain environments? The simple answer to that falls in line with there being very few actual negatives to commercial epoxy flooring, and then there’s the fact that these flooring systems have been designed with industrious environments in mind.

Here at Shirley Industrial Painters, we have over 45 years of experience in dealing with epoxy flooring, so we decided to put together a list of some of the most beneficial, commercial environments for epoxy flooring.

Gym or Leisure Centre

A leisure centre can take full advantage of every benefit of commercial epoxy flooring, whether it be the visual aspects, durability, or economy. Firstly, for installations in a gym, epoxy floors are capable of handling and dispersing great impact weight – which is good for when the free-weights are being thrown around. The surface itself is slick and smooth, which means cleanup is hassle-free and can include antibacterial solution, in order to defeat bacteria and grime. Although smooth, the surface an epoxy floor is non-slip, when dry, which means indoor sports are safer and easier to play. Finally, a gym is always going to be well-lit, and an epoxy floor contributes to this with having reflective properties.

Mechanic’s Garage

The floor of a mechanic’s garage is subject to some serious stress on a day-to-day basis, which renders concrete, wood, vinyl and a lot of other flooring options far-less effective. Luckily, though, epoxy flooring must have been designed with this application in mind – seeing as the durability, sheen and easy maintenance combat most issues mechanics face when choosing the right floor.

Firstly, as aforementioned, epoxy floors are great at handling the impact of dropped, heavy objects. And, although you’d like to look past it, accidents happen and it’s likely that a car or an engine is going to be dropped onto the floor of a mechanic at some point. The engine might be worse for wear, but at least the floor is likely to be fine. Then there’s the fact that spills are going to happen in a mechanic, with fluids used in vehicles also being some of the trickiest to clean up and easiest to stain. This is no issue for epoxy though, as the slick surface allows for optimal cleanup. Finally, mapping the floorspace of a garage is ideal for directing vehicles and sectioning different workstations, which is pretty simple with commercial epoxy floors and therefore makes these floor installations ideal for this context.

Honourable Mentions

When we think of commercial epoxy floors, we often think of places such as aeroplane hangars, warehouses and hospitals, although those places are too obvious to point out the benefits of. That’s why we decided to run you through some of the reasons that an epoxy floor is ideal for both a leisure centre and a mechanical garage. The most important thing to consider, though, is the benefits mentioned in the sections dedicated to the leisure centre or the garage directly applies to an array of commercial settings – including the hanger, the warehouse and the hospital – all you need to do, is add the corresponding context and you’re good to go.
